Moulin Rouge

Just before the turn of the 20th century, live entertainment ruled the roost. And no music hall commanded more attention or shocked more patrons than Moulin Rouge. Located in Pigalle, Moulin Rouge (which literally means “red windmill”) was the place to be. Some of the greatest acts of the time played to its packed houses. “Moulin Rouge” captures the era perfectly. For just three francs patrons could watch the scandalous Can-Can dancers with their frilly, high kicking steps. In “Moulin Rouge”, a properly dressed lady awaits her date in front of the famed red windmill. Though she was welcomed through the front door, no lady was allowed in the elephant behind the theater. Only men could pay for the privilege of watching belly dancers sway exotically in the elephant’s belly. This wonderful tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
