Annunciation

Annunciation
Painted by Fra Angelico (1395-1455), “Annunciation” is a classic representation of one of the most historic moments in Christianity. It portrays the archangel Gabriel visiting Mary to inform her that she will give birth to a baby in nine months. “Annunciation” is one of the earliest examples of the use of the linear perspective in art, helping give the piece a real sense of depth. The original hangs in the Museo di San Marco, France. Beatified by Pope John Paul II, Fra Angelico was also honored in another way that is perhaps more recognizable. The Dominican Monks who created a hazelnut liqueur for medicinal purposes named the liqueur after him. The drink today, sold in its trademark monk bottle, is known as Frangelico. This tapestry is lined on the back and has a tunnel for easy hanging and display.
