This world map tapestry "Antique Map Black" shows an elegant antique map from the 17th century. Cartography was both an art and science and involved gathering the data from sea explorers on their long ocean voyages where they mapped the world's contour, and designing it onto a flat surface. There were potential sources of inaccuracies in both the distance contour detail gathering and the mapping itself, yet remarkably, these cartographers were able to produce accurate maps which are beautiful to look at. The words "Typus Orbis Terrarum" means hemisphere world map or map of the world. Here we see the beautiful map of the world with an ornate border with Latin and decorative flowers and foliage, which completes the work perfectly. This world map tapestry "Antique Map Black" is backed with a lining and has a tunnel for easy hanging. Note: tapestry rod and tassels, where pictured, are purchased separately.
