Cabbage leaves

Cabbage leaves
One of the centers of tapestry weaving was the Oudenaarde area of Belgium. At its peak, the town employed more than 12,000 people in the weaving trade. It continued to be the production capital throughout the 16th and 17th centuries. During this time, some of the most beautiful tapestries were designed and woven by skilled artisans who understood how to create a design with deep relief and rich texture. “Feuilles d'Aristoloche” or “Cabbage leaves” is based on the 16th century original which hangs in the Vienna Museum in Austria. With tremendous attention to detail, “Cabbage leaves” depicts birds resting in an intricate network of branches and flowers. The exquisitely detailed border complements the central design perfectly. The rich colors and the thoughtful use of texture enhance the overall viewing experience. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
