Chateau Azay-le-Rideau

Built in 1518, Chateau Azay-le-Rideau is one of the earliest of all French style chateaus. With its elegant turrets and majestic style, this chateau is a testament to the architecture of the time, as well as to construction. The tall overhanging watch turrets are the brainchild of the woman who had inspired the house, Phillipe Lesbahy, who was unable to complete the reconstruction following the death of her husband. One of the most innovative features of the chateau is a central staircase enclosed by the building, which was unheard of at the time. After changing hands several times, the chateau was purchased by the French government and restored to its original Renaissance look. “Chateau Azay-le-Rideau” captures the true beauty of this magnificent chateau from an age of kings and queens.
