Diana - ebony

Similar in every way to our “Diana - Ivory”, this version has a deep black background that really brings out the intricate work of the original. At the height of the 17th century, Gobelins manufactory in France was considered the center for fine weaving, particularly tapestries. Their in-house artists conceived of this work as part of a larger set of four portieres featuring Diana, goddess of the hunt. Each work depicted Diana in a different season of the year. The originals, which were designed and woven between 1740 and 1744, can still be seen today in the Quai d’Orsay, which is the headquarters of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris. It is true to the original in every way, and is fully detailed. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for ease of hanging.
