Diana - ivory

Diana - ivory
In the 17th century, the Gobelins Manufacture in France, arguably one of the great designers and weavers of tapestries, created a four part series of portieres featuring Diana, the goddess of the hunt. Each tapestry depicted a different season of the year. The one pictured here is spring. The originals were made between 1740 and 1744, and hang in the rotunda drawing room in the Quai d’Orsay, which houses the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris. Woven to the same exacting specifications as the original, “Diana - Ivory” is a beautiful and enduring symbol of hope and renewal. Seated in the center, Diana is attended to by her many hunting dogs and delightful little cherubs. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for ease of hanging.
