Directoire - detail

Based on the original portiere that is part of the French Mobilier National-Epoque Napoleonienne collection, “Directoire” celebrates the art of Versailles. Originally crafted of white satin embroidered with silk, chenille and gold thread, the portiere curtain was part of the Palace of Versailles during the late 18th century. This style of art included elements from interior décor, furniture, and art, often in fanciful styles. In this “Directoire”, three ornate vases grace the center of the work, surrounded by exotic birds and flowers suspended in mid air. The detail is absolutely amazing in this work. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
