Directoire

Based on an original design for a portiere curtain at the Palace of Versailles, “Directoire” features a classic subject of late 18th century art, the vase. In this rendition, three ornate vases are pictured amidst exotic birds and small flowers that seem to be floating through the air. This particular style is incredibly detailed, yet far less complex than the art of the French at the time, which was more severe as well. The border is also very intricate, both in its patterns as well as its use of colors. The original portiere curtain was made of white satin embroidered with silk, chenille and gold thread, and is part of the French Mobilier National-Epoque Napoleonienne collection. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
