This design "French Birds" is a print on linen/cotton blend fabric.
Based on the works of zoologist artists from the 19th century, this piece "French Birds" shows four birds resting on a tree amidst a landscape. This piece is reminiscent of the works of George Edwards, an English zoologist with a specialization in birds. The composition is classic and beautiful, with the birds placed close together to place the attention on the birds, and the tree that they perch on has beautifully rendered foliage and trunk. The earth is represented in a stylised way to provide motif to decorate the scene. The landscape is miniature and as such provides an effect of vast distance, a technique used in landscapes to provide a sense of scale and depth. A decorative border completes the work.
