Amazing in its detail, this large portiere hand woven tapestry shows a glorious scene of flowers and birds. Based on the portiere tapestries of the French 17th century, where tapestries were created in the Beauvais, Gobelins and Aubusson regions of France, here we see a 21st century version. The French word portiere means door, and these tapestries were used to cover doorways, and were also called rideau de porte. Later portieres referred to tall narrow tapestries to adorn walls. Here we see a tall tapestry with a harmonious use of colors of pinks, violets, golds and greens to produce a work which is filled with beauty and intricacy of design. Golden doves are seen to fly among the central flower motif. This hand-woven tapestry "Doves and Plumes" comes unlined, and has a rod pocket for easy hanging.
