Les Cerfs Ailes or The Winged Stags tapestry is handwoven and shows a stunning scene of stags in a pen surrounded by lions. The original works was created for the King of France in the 15th century, King Charles IX, and is now in the Museum of Antiquities in Rouen in France. Here we see the mythical winged stag or Perytons, a creature of Atlantis, in a pen, protected by lions and a banner featuring a design of knights in armor with a sun emblem. A shield is also seen in front of the pen, and a coat of arms of the House of Bourbons. This scene is reminiscent of the hunt of the unicorn scenes from the medieval period. The forest background is a flurry of activity and detail and is a striking accompaniment to this scene. Rolling clouds are in the sky and there was castles seen in the distance. Every section of this work is filled with detail and is an impressive work of art.
