Iris greenery

Iris greenery
Originating from Edingen, Flanders in the 17th century, this tapestry depicts a landscape of irises and cabbage leaves. Beautifully reproduced here, “Iris greenery” is faithful to the original tapestry, which now resides in the Royal Museum for Art and History in Brussels. It is decorated in bearded iris flowers and blue daisies, all intertwined with aristolochia leaves. The borders feature fair maidens seated on pomegranates, the sign of fertility in the 17th century. Like most works of the period, “Iris greenery” is rich in detail and is very fanciful, not only in its designs but its use of colors. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
