She is near the gentle unicorn and the meanings of the Lady and the Unicorn series depicting the five sense and that of love or desire have remained, as well as this one derived from them, has eluded historians and art lovers alike. Commissioned presumably by Jean Le Viste who was a nobleman of the court of King Charles VII, these works bear his family crest in the flags in these tapestries upheld here by the lion. The proximity of the lady to the mythical unicorn and an assortment of other forest animals suggest that she may be pure of heart. In this tapestry a beige bckground is used.
