This very unique tapestry cushion cover shows a "Levrier De Cluny" or the "Greyhound of Cluny". Cluny is a French commune founded by William I of Aquitine in 910. The typical medieval style is seen here in the use of bold colors and a millefleur background, to feature the greyhound. In the middle ages, greyhounds were nearly extinct due to famine, but were conserved by clergymen and who bred them for the nobility and a law was passed in 1014 in England that stated that only nobility were allowed to own greyhounds. Greyhounds were the dogs of aristocracy, and the lighter colored greyhounds were used in hunting trips by William the Conquerer as they were more easily spotted if lost in the forest. This medieval cushion cover "Levrier De Cluny" is backed with a lining and zipper. Note: infill not included.
