Mr Carpaccio

Before the age of photography, both paintings and wall tapestries chronicled life throughout the ages. Even ordinary scenes from the day take on extraordinary importance today, as they serve as the only visual record of history. “Mr Carpaccio” is a fine example of this. Here is a scene in Venice during the Renaissance. Several galleons have anchored in port, adding to the bustle of activity of this vital trading center. As one can see, the men of Venice go about their daily chores, tending to the ships, discussing matters of commerce and politics, and making repairs to their vessels. The only one relaxing is a dog, who is looking out on the harbor from the dock. This is a terrific example of mid-Renaissance artistry at its finest. This tapestry is unlined and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
