The Nascita di Venere by Sandro Botticelli wall tapestry is based on the Birth of Venus by Boticelli from 1484. In this scene we see Venus, the Roman goddess of fertility and love, emerging from a clam shell. This piece was commissioned by Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de'Medici. The male figure Zephyros bringer of spring and summer breezes is seen to blow wind to move her along the water. A lady is seen on her left to place a garment across the naked body of Venus. The origin of the inspiration for this piece is unknown though the hymn published in Florence in 1488 by the Demetrios Chalkokondyles which tells of her birth as shown in this iconic image by Boticelli. This Renaissance tapestry La Primavera is backed with a lining and a tunnel for easy hanging. Note: tapestry rods and tassels, where pictured, are not included in the price.
