Redoute Tulip

Redoute Tulip
This tapestry 'Redoute Tulip' depicts a single tulip and is based on a work by French artist and illustrator Pierre-Joseph Redoute (1759-1840). Here we see the intricate detail of the tulip plant including its variegated petals just unfolding to the robust leaves at the base. The tulip is one of the most revered flowers, associated with the ideal of perfect love and romantic beauty. Redoute was not only an artist with a flair and passion for roses and tulips, he was also a botanist. His attention to detail and precision can be seen in this tapestry as well as in all his works which included 2100 published illustrative plates of over 1800 species of plants, some of which were illustrated for the first time. This tapestry is backed with lining and tunnel for easy hanging.
