Shearing of the sheep

Detailed Image
Shearing of the sheep
In Medieval times, common every day occurrences took on great importance, particularly in the eyes of the many artisans who captured the times through their paintings. Shearing of the Sheep is no exception. First woven in 1470, this wonderfully crafted tapestry shows peasants shearing the sheep in a pasture. A snapshot of an ordinary day of the times, the work has great historical and artistic merit for the discerning collector of fine tapestries. The design is superb, right down to the highly detailed floral border. Shearing of the Sheep is believed to have been part of a “Series of the Months” tapestries and represented June. The original is still on display in Brussels at the Royal Museums of Art and History.
