Teniers

Teniers
David Teniers the Younger (1610-1690) was one of the most famous Flemish painters of this time, on a parity with Rubens and Van Dyck. Admitted as a master to the guild of St. Luke in 1632, Teniers the Younger (his father was known as David Teniers the Elder) painted more than 800 works during his lifetime. This lovely depiction of peasant life – one of Teniers’ favorite subjects – shows peasants in a small village enjoying a day in a wooded opening. In the center, a man takes his turn at the game of skittles while others enjoy a drink or the fine company of a fellow villager. Finely detailed, this piece provides an insight into village life in the medieval period. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
