The king's departure I

The departure of a king was a significant event in a medieval village. Today, it would be akin to the president traveling abroad. For villagers, it was a time of celebration and of trepidation, as their faithful leader left the village in the hands of lesser nobles. Here, the king prepares for his journey. He is surrounded by his guards and courtiers who prepare him for his travels to parts unknown. It’s hard to tell from the expressions on the individuals if this is a mission of peace or of war. By now, the heralds have announced the king’s imminent departure to villagers, who are going about their daily lives in the background. “The kings departure I” is filled with the icons of royalty and nobility.
