The king's departure II

Medieval times were characterized by the feudal system of kings, serfs and peasants. Being under the rule of the king had rewards such as a level of protection granted to them in times of conflict. This chenille tapestry shows the king as he departs the village. The king is mounted on a horse, the destination of his journey unknown. His servants surround him and his courtiers, preparing them for their trip. The travels of a king were the things local legends were made of and artists often chronicled them in their works. This wonderful tapestry, known as “The king’s departure II” is one of several works following the same theme. It comes with a tunnel for easy hanging and is unlined.
