The Lady Cushion Cover

The Lady Cushion Cover shows a detail of the Lady from the Dame a La Licorne series. This cushion cover is part of a set of the Unicorn II Cushion Cover, The Lion II Cushion Cover and Garennes or rabbits Cusion Cover. The Lady and the Unicorn series from around 1511, were a series of tapestried representing the 5 senses and a sixth representing love or desire, each depicted by the Lady with a unicorn. Mysterious in origin, they were thought to be commissioned by a court member of King Charles VII, Jean Le Viste. Here we see the detail of the Lady's face, with a head piece which echoes the capes which are seen on the lion and unicorn which represented the family crest of Le Viste. The Lady Cushion Cover is backed with a lining and has a zipper. Infill is not included.
