The Luxemburg Gardens

The Luxemburg Gardens
Part of the Luxemburg Palace, the Luxemburg Gardens has been a popular destination for Parisians since the early 17th century. It was in that time that Marie de Medicis had the gardens constructed next to Luxemburg Palace. The sprawling gardens were completed in 1627 and have been popular for generations of tourists. The Luxemburg Gardens are beautifully captured in this tapestry by Ernest Quest (1882 – 1913). Today, the original hangs at Mobilier National in Paris. Woven in the popular Art Nouveau style at the time, it shows a group of young women at play in the gardens amongst the plentiful blossoms during the summer. The statue in the background is one of many in the gardens that depict the queens of France. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
