The Orange Tree - with border

The Orange Tree - with border
Originally known as Morris, Marshall, Faulkner and Co when it was founded in 1861, Morris & Co was known for its fine artistry and high quality production techniques. The company rejected modern mass production, and instead used the earlier approaches, producing works that were distinctive and unique. This is perhaps what set Morris & Co’s work apart the most whether it was their tapestries, wallpapers or carpets. “The Orange Tree” was designed by in-house artist John Henry Dearle (1860-1932) and first woven in 1900 by Morris & Co. It was inspired by “The Orchard”, a larger work showing the change in seasons and abundance of summer fruits. Oranges were a favorite theme of the company and they are portrayed brilliantly in Dearle’s design. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
