The Pheasant

The Pheasant
In this tapestry 'The Pheasant' we see a pheasant scrounging high in the orchard tree as a squirrel explores the foliage and flowers on the ground below. This work is typical of William Morris and features motifs of nature, in particular the details on the leaves of the tree and the plants. Morris was a prominent figure in the world of tapestries and was responsible for the revival of the art movement in England and later in other parts of Europe in the Victorian age. His works focused on themes of nature and mythical figures of ten in conjunction with each other. This piece 'The Pheasant' with its rich dark background, like the Orchard, the Orange Tree, the Tree of Life and he Forest, focuses purely on nature themes. This tapestry is backed with lining and tunnel for easy hanging.
