Vendanges

Vendanges
Part of the famous Les Vendanges (The Grape Harvest) which hangs in the Musée National du Moyen Age in Paris, this tapestry shows the importance of the annual wine harvest in villages throughout Europe in the late 15th century. Peasants are gathering the grapes from the vines in the field, carefully placing them in baskets to prevent damage to the delicate fruit. The colors are extremely rich and the tapestry is highly detailed, right down to the grape vines that cascade and weave their way around the edges to form the frame. While many tapestries of the time reflect more dramatic or religious themes, there are surviving examples that simply show daily life in the Middle Ages. This is one of the finest examples of this. This tapestry is lined on the back and has a tunnel for easy hanging in your home.
