This design "Vintage Flora" is a print on linen/cotton blend fabric.
This botanical study "Vintage Flora" is based on the colored plates from the 18th century of exotic plants. Here we see plants in fruit and bloom, and a royal coat of arms dedicated to the "Earl of Macclesfield" which is a region located in Cheshire, England. Plant studies in England took on a life of its own, as scientific discoveries evolved to the point where horticulture became a true scientific process of accuracy as well as artistic expression. The widespread interest in botany was not only by the horticulturists for its pure study, it was also by the public who grew an interest in new plants for their own growing and enjoyment.
