This design "Vintage Map" is a print on linen/cotton blend fabric.
Based on the 17th century work by Joducus Hondius, "Vintage Map" shows an old world map art work. The Dutch cartographers of his day were considered artists as well as scientists, as map makers had to produce maps of accurate detail, as well as artistic beauty. This piece, based on Hondius' work, shows the continents formed in most places, except for a lack of detail in Australia, or Terra Incognita, which represented the land of the unknown. It was later when Dutch and other explorers discovered the west coast of Western Australia that this continent appeared on the world map. This work is in sepia tones to accentuate the details in the map as well as the decorative motifs throughout. "Vintage Map" is available in the options below:
