Chateau Fountain

In this tapestry ‘Chateau Fountain’, we see a palace and fountain setting, a section taken from the Flemish tapestry, ‘Venus and Adonis’ from the Oudenaerde region. This series of tapestries depicts the Roman goddess of love, Venus and the Greek ever youthful god, Adonis. In these works, these two beautiful deities are placed in a courtyard setting where Adonis is admiring the form of Venus as she sleeps with cherubs surrounding her. In this tapestry, the luscious fruits of love including flowers are strewn over the greenery of the courtyard from the tree above and the manicured gardens of the palace can be seen in the background. To the right, is the cascade fountain which adds a bubbling source of water and sound for this garden. The intricacy and detail of color in this tapestry in the foreground detail is exceptional. This tapestry “Chateau Fountain” is backed with a lining and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
