This tapestry “Evening Mood” is the artwork of French painter William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905). The works of Bouguereau focuses on women and he portrays each female character with a combination of realism and idealism, and borders on fantasy. Each is a study of the female form in a vast variety of scenes and his style is known as academic, photo-realistic, idealised with a preoccupation of nymphs, goddesses and madonnas which were adored by art patrons. Bouguereau was considered one of the most important French artists of his era before the movement of impressionism emerged. Here in this tapestry, we see a nude woman in a chiffon drape flowing in the wind, on the shore of a stormy ocean at dusk, with a sliver of moon just appearing. She is almost floating on the beach and reflects the fantasy element of this piece. This art tapestry “Evening Mood” is unlined and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
