This Oriental wall hanging “Golden Bamboo” shows an abstract portrayal of a statue of Buddha, based on the work of artist Arnie Fisk. The Buddha was born as Siddhartha Gautama as a prince destined to rule his kingdom in the future. He was protected by his father from the real world and was not allowed to witness the struggle of the real world or religious teachings. However at age 30, he decided to venture out and see for himself the reality of the world around him. Struck by inspiration and the desire to pursue the truth of enlightenment to end human suffering, he meditated for 49 days until he gained ‘enlightenment’. In this tapestry we see the Buddha on top of a lotus flower, a symbol of purity and love in Asian culture. The color palette is cohesive yet restrained with the deep greens of the bamboo echoing the green robe of the Buddha which complements the brown, orange and pink of the rest of the tapestry. This tapestry “Golden Bamboo” is unlined and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
