Handwoven Repose a la Fontaine

This handwoven tapestry "Repose a la Fontaine" shows the detail from unicorn at the fountain, based on the famous "La Chasse" tapestry from Brussels from the 15th century. The original was thought to have been woven between 1495 and 1505 and commissioned for the marriage between Anne of Britanny and Louis XII, the King of France. Here we see the central fountain which has been cleansed by the horn of the unicorn. Now the forest animals including the pheasants, birds, dogs and other creatures come to satiate their thirst at the cleaned water. The greens of the foliage are gorgeous as they strikingly contrast with the reds and blues of the rich garments of the villagers and hunters. The tapestries here showcase the mythical and magical subject of the unicorn which represents immortality. This handwoven tapestry "Repose a la Fontaine" is lined, and has a rod pocket for easy hanging.
