In this tapestry, "L' Escarpolette" or the Swing, is based on the work of 18th century painter Jean-Honore Fragonard, and is considered a master work of the Rococo period. It is regarded as Fragonard's best known work and was originally created in 1767. In this piece, a woman on a swing is pushed by her husband, who appears unaware of her lover to the left who is peeping at her petticoats. Originally Charles Colle, a courtier, asked artist Gabriel Doyen to produce this painting, who refused and gave the commission to Fragonard. Originally Colle wanted the woman to be pushed by a bishop, however Fragonard changed this to a layman. This French art tapestry "L' Escarpolette" is backed with lining and a tunnel for easy hanging.
