Le Joute or the Joust is a tapestry showing the tournaments held with a festival flavor. This tapestry shows the knights preparing for the joust with a display of helmets, jousting equipment and royal emblems representing the factions contesting. The first tournaments are attributed to Geoffrey de Preuilly around 1000but their popularity gained its height from the 12th century onwards. Typically the king and royal family and court will gather to attend the jousts. The atmosphere is both competitive and festive as dancing and banquets would accompany the jousts themselves. Each faction will compete with the honor of representing their faction or county but also to try to show their skill and hopefully win the tournament. This tapestry here shows the color and festivity of the Joust with great detail. This tapestry Le Joute is backed with a lining and tunnel for easy hanging
