This tapestry, La Prise de Lille II is based on 1 of 14 tapestries called The History of the King. Here in this scene we see King Louis XIV, with his army commanders Vauban and Turenne. In 1667 the city of Lille in northern France, near Flanders, was conquered by Spaniards on August 18. In this scene we see the distinctive style of the 17th century with its stylized rendition of nature and city scene as well as a the elaborate dress of the courtiers. This fine art tapestry is backed with a lining and a tunnel for easy hanging.
