Le Tournai – Vertical tapestry shows a work by Jean-Paul Laurens (1838- 1921). The original were used to decorate the guards room at the Public Records Office, originally woven at the Royal Manufacture of Gobelins in France from 1895 to 1899. The tournaments were celebrated events where jousting competitions were accompanied by dancing, feasts and enabled various knights to show off their talent and skills. Here we see an elaborate scene where the audience is watching the jousting or Le Joute, and the scene is decorated with banners, flowers, and shields. This work is rich in medieval styled detail. The Le Tournai – Vertical tapestry is backed with lining and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
