Little Prince – Leighton

In Little Prince – Leighton Belgian tapestry we see the work of Edmund Blair Leighton (1853-1922). Here we see the royal mother presenting the little prince to the crowd in a castle courtyard. The works of Pre-Raphaelite artist Leighton is filled with romanticism and medieval beauty, as he portrays life of royalty and chivalry in works such as the Accolade, Godspeed and Alain Chartier. The original painting is inscribed at the back “A little Prince likely in time to bless a Royal throne” Shakespeare Henry VI. E. Blair Leighton”. In the play Henry VI, referring to the power struggle between Lancaster and York there is a reference to young Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond. This piece shows the glorious rendition of the royalty in the foreground with the softer light in the distance. This Little Prince tapestry is backed with a lining and a tunnel for easy hanging.
