This tapestry shows a scene from the original tapestry “The Harvesting of Pineapples” or “La Recolte des Ananas” a work from a set of ten tapestries “The History of the Chinese Emperor” which was commissioned by Louis Alexander de Bourbon, son of King Louis the XIV. The original was woven by the famous Beauvais manufacture of France. When Jesuit missionaries returned from exotic lands, tales were told of Chinese culture and adventures. For ever more this fascination with exoticism influenced French art in the 17th century. Here we see a lady waving her fan and leading the harvest of pineapples from the blooming pineapple plants with some royalty enjoying the day in the background. The Chinese styled building in the background shows Asian details in the architecture. This exotic landscape tapestry “Pineapple Harvest (Left)” comes complete with lining and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
