This Return of Bucintoro tapestry shows the work of Giovanni Antonio Canal (1697-1768), an Italian painter of landscapes of Venice. The return of the Bucintoro to the Molo on Ascension day is seen here in this work from 1732. The bucentaur is used every year on Ascension day, where the ship is taken to the Adriatic sea to perform the marriage of the sea, to symbolise the wedding of Venice to the sea. Here we see the festivities and color of the day, with the large boat and other small vessels accompanying the ceremony. The details of the buildings, ships and garments can be seen. This Return of Bucintoro tapestry is backed with lining and tunnel for easy hanging.
