Often attributed to Francois Boucher, "Royalty at Lake Como" was actually designed by an unknown artist. It shows a small party of nobility, enjoying the view from the terrace. The inspiration came from three paintings from the 17th century and uses elements from each. The gardens are plush and magnificent, and this tapestry has captured every detail. In the background is Villa d'Este, one of the most outstanding examples of Renaissance design and architecture. Lake Como is off to the left, disappearing into the low hills beyond. "Royalty at Lake Como" is a classic of the work of the 18th century; fine in composition, stunning in the use of color and control of lighting. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
