Serenade Creme

Francois Boucher's innovative work in the rococo style is legendary in the art world. His love of romance and landscapes is not only evident in his own body of work, but in those who were influenced by him. Such is the case of this lovely tapestry. Entitled "Serenade creme", it is finished in the style made famous by Boucher. It was originally manufactured at the Gobelin's Manufacture at the end of the 18th century as part of a set. In the medallion are two lovers enjoying a romantic interlude near some ruins. They are complemented by a floral shrouded wreath with additional floral motifs throughout the tapestry. Several birds flit about the cream background, as if decorating the tapestry with flowers and arrangements. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
