"Dieu et mon droit", on the Stuart Crest, means "My Divine Right" among other translations. This is the royal crest of Charles the second (Charles Stuart) who reigned England, Scotland and Ireland between 1661 and 1685. The words "Honi soit qui mal y pense" means "Shame to him who evil thinks". The central part of this family crest design. of the unicorn and the lion with regal crowns, also appears in the Royal Coat of arms of the United Kingdom. This feature of French mottos on English royal emblems and family crests is not a surprise since Norman French became the primary language of the English Royal Court and the ruling class after the reign of William of Normandy and subsequently the reign of the Plantagenet kings in the 12th century for the following three hundred years. This tapestry is backed with a lining and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
