François Boucher |
![]() François Boucher (1703-1770) was a French artist who captured the opulence and idyllic romance of the aristocratic lifestyle in his art works. Boucher’s works are romantic, not in an epic way, but with sensuality and a touch of the mythical. He would have for example, cherubs that would sit by the main subject in his portraits. Through his influence, he was responsible for the shift of French art to the Rococco style in the 18th century, which possessed these qualities of romance and light heartedness. Boucher in his lifetime, created hundreds of tapestries to provide the French royal residences with interior décor, including for Madame de Pompadour, the mistress of Louis XV, and was appointed the first painter of the King in 1765. In Boucher’s designs, we often see idyllic pastoral scenes that will typically charm and delight you. |
