Religious tapestries

Religious and spiritual beliefs have strongly influenced art, and this has certainly been the case for tapestries.

In ancient Rome, elements of the Christian faith including cherubs and angels have been depicted on fresco walls. As the popularity of tapestries grew in Europe in the 13th century, tapestries were used in churches to illustrate important spiritual lessons and stories.
