Oriental Urn I tapestry shows an ancient Chinese blue vase on a deep blue background. Traditionally, of all symbols of Asian culture, the vase or urn is one of the most well known to art collectors and art lovers. The Chinese were masters of ceramics and urn making since the 1st century AD. Their techniques have even been sought by the Europeans through studied their methods of kilning, glazing and painting and brought this information back to Europe. Traditionally, elements from nature that interested Chinese culture was included into the details of the design itself as well as the painted art on the urn. In this tapestry, we see elaborate images of birds nesting in a fully blooming tree over the entire urn. The roots of the tree subtly wind around the curved base of the vase.
