This gorgeous tapestry cushion cover shows the left cherub from Raffael’s most famous work, the Sistine Madonna. Raphael Sanzio born in 1483, was one of the great Renaissance painters and artists. In the Sistine Madonna, the oil painting altarpiece created for Pope Julius II for the San Sisto church in Piancenza, we see a scene of the Madonna floating in the clouds, with the 2 cherubs beneath watching on, who were to become 2 of the most famous cherub angels of all time. Here we see the child cherub on the left in a subtle contemplation as his hands meets his face and lips. Apparently Raffael was inspired by seeing 2 children looking wistfully out of a baker’s shop, to create this portion of the work. This cushion cover “Angels by Raffael – Left” is backed with a lining and has a zipper. Note: infill not included.
