Based on the work from the Les Maisons Royales series of tapestries, this tapestry "Chateau D'Enghien" shows the work of Charles Le Brun, director of the Gobelins Manufactory, a team of 49 artists which produced works of art for the palace of Versailles under King Louis XIV. The "Hanging of Royal Houses" were a series of large wall tapestry works for decorating the apartments of the officers of the Crown in Febus, sent originally in 1842 to Louis Phillipe in Pau. Here we see an elaborate work with columns, pilasters, balustrades and flower garlands, with an elaborate drape and cello, with a view of the palace in the distance, with the extensive palace grounds, the park of Enghien, in between. This cityscape tapestry "Chateau D'Enghien" is backed with a lining and has a tunnel for ease of hanging.
