This French tapestry “Galanterie” is from a series of wall hangings by jean-Baptiste Huet (1745-1811) woven for the first time towards 1780 by the Royal Manufacture of Beauvais. This tapestry is part of a series of ten tapestries called the Tentures Patorales – five with red draperies and five with blue. Here we see a romantic young couple courting by the gardens, with a group of children playing nearby including a child on his pony. The fanciful drape over the top and the floral border creates a fantasy like context for this scene. This French art tapestry “Galanterie” is backed with lining and a tunnel for easy hanging.
