Hunts of Maximilian – Wool tapestry shows Maximilian I the emperor of Netherlands in a glorious hunting scene. Maximilian I (1459-1519) was the emperor of the Holy Roman empire, Spanish empire, Burgundy and the Netherlands. Here in this scene, we see the month of April depicted, which is indicated by the astrological sign of the bull or Aries in the top of the work, and is the beginning of the hawking season. The hounds are accompanying the hunting party, and are travelling through the rich foliage of the forest with the town and village in the background. The color palette is beautiful with cohesive browns, greens and olives. An elaborate border completes this medieval style work. This tapestry is unlined and has a tunnel for easy hanging.
